 frequently asked questions for portraits

WHAT IS YOUR PHOTO STYLE?

My style of photography is a mix of posed and candid/documentary shots. What does that mean? It means I try not to run around posing everyone, instead, I become part of your day, part of what’s going on, a quiet observer of things. I capture the real, the candid, the natural. I will, however, jump in and do a few poses. I do combine both posed and candid in all our shoots.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT(Booking Fee)?

Yes. A 50% deposit will secure your date. All deposits are non-refundable, but where possible I am happy to reschedule.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHEN YOU SAY AN “ON LOCATION” PHOTO-SHOOT?

An on-location photo-shoot means that we shoot in your natural environment, at your home, at the beach. Wherever you would like should you want a shoot of more than 50kilometers from the Sunshine Coast a travel fee will apply.

WILL YOU TRAVEL BETWEEN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE DAY? (I.E. FROM THE HOTEL TO OUR FAVORITE PLACE, ETC)

Of course, I will. Important note: Remember to allow travel time between each location when you are planning your day and considering how many hours you will require me.

DO YOU TRAVEL?

Yes, I travel all around Australia, including rurally. And would absolutely love to discuss travel details and quotes with you.

HOW MANY DIGITAL IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE?

Your package includes several images although the photographer takes as many as we need to capture the moment. The photographer will take some time after the shoot to discuss and show (back of the camera) some images to you, please speak up if there is anything you don't like or would like and do not see. After the shoot is done the photographer will take a couple of days to pick the number of shots as ordered from the package and go ahead and edit those. (Will send them via digital download)  All the extra images (unedited) will be put into a folder and you can purchase these images as extras.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY DIGITAL IMAGES?

Depending on how many images there are, you should have your images within 10 working days (More than 200 images might take longer)

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO SCHEDULE A PHOTO DATE?

Most people think a clear sunny day is a perfect light for photos. Generally isn’t.

Think… Searchlight (aka mid-day sun) VS Candlelight (aka sunrise/sunset) Harsh light causes harsh shadows and generally is very unflattering.

Early morning or late afternoon light tends to be a softer light and casts an even light across your beautiful face. The light at this time is your friend.  If possible try to avoid the harsh mid-day sun… it is not your friend.

IS MY HOME SUITABLE FOR A SHOOT?

Yes of course it is! Children tend to be more relaxed and natural in their own home and we also believe that the pictures are as much for them when they grow up as for the parents – even the tiniest details in the background of a picture can bring childhood memories flooding back.

Sometimes what parents think of as the most unpromising rooms can create striking and dramatic photographs. We are happy to move things around and set up each shot.

DO MY CHILDREN NEED TO PERFECTLY BEHAVED?

We have enjoyed working with children for over 10 years and see it as a priority for the photo-sessions to be fun.

Parents shouldn’t feel pressured as kids will sense the tension.

Tip: Parents just walk away, as a photographer who absolutely loves children it’s easy to be strict and fun all at the same time. The minute it seems more irritating we stop the shoot, or we take a quick 10min break.  Promise 10/10 times I still shoot, and these are the beautiful photos. We won’t achieve anything by forcing anyone to do anything… (Just dad he can handle it #wink)

DO YOU DO PRINTS?

Yes, I can. However, most of my clients prefer to print their own enlargements. The cost of using my printing service will vary depending on what size you require, the paper stock you use, and will also include a fee for my time.

WHO OWNS THE (C) COPYRIGHT OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS?

Copyright in the photographs remains with the photographer aka me. You can use the photos on social media and you can print as many as you need for your personal, non-commercial use. All the legalities are covered in my booking form.

The use of images for commercial purposes will incur licensing fees. If you receive an inquiry to use the images for commercial purposes, i.e. a venue wants to use one of your wedding photos for their advertising, or blog etc, please refer the inquiry to me so I can assist them.
